Dodge City's Wright Park is one of my favorite parks in the state. It has a small zoo, a band shell, an architectural gem, and many, many signs, plaques, and memorials. Robert Wright platted the park and Peter Mootz landscaped it in 1883. It's located south of Wyatt Earp Blvd. on Second Street.-Hoover Pavilion in Wright Park is a local historical landmark originally constructed as an open air pavilion in 1919. After major renovations in the early 2000's, the facility is now fully renovated.
Dodge City Liberty Garden -The tragedies of September 11, 2001, Liberty Garden will live in the memories of Americans for generations. Located in historic Wright Park, Dodge Citys Liberty Garden was designed as a place of remembrance and solitude. -Dodge City's history with zoo animals dates back to 1926 when the city acquired two African lions to go with two North American black bears and raccoons that were already on display in Wright Park. The animal's enclosures were scattered about the park until the mid 1980's when the zoo took its current form, occupying approximately four acres in the southwest portion of the park.
