Hartwell First United Methodist Churct
-
Prior to this buildings construction, members met on this lot in a frame structure which was the first church building in Hartwell prior to the Civil War. The use of the building was extended to the First Baptist Church, whose members met there until constructing their own building. The Methodist church was the first building in town other than the Hartwell Mill to have electricity. It is an example of Gothic Revival style and features beautiful windows made of Tiffany glass, executed by W.R. Orr Company of Atlanta. The bell, which tolls in the tone of A flat, was purchased in 1891 and weighs 1,050 lbs. The church was placed on the National Register in 1987.
