One of the brick fireproof buildings destroyed in the fire of 1874 was the O.K. Store owned by Abraham Jacob, located on this site. The store was immediately rebuilt and in business for another 20 years. The cast iron storefront was purchased from the Mesker and Co Ironworks of Indiana. In 1898, the local lodge of the Ancient Order of United Workmen purchased the building, adding on a second floor for their meeting room.
