Bart Parteli and Gus Bensel opened the Gold Coin Bar here in 1897. Little has changed over the years as the interior has been maintained since the early 1900s. During Prohibition, the Coin converted into a pool hall and grocery store. The sagged look of the building is due to a talc formation upon which it sits, along with the soft Hooper brick of which it is constructed. Today, the Gold Coin Saloon is part of Easy Street Casino.
