Summer has been out of this world at the Museum of Nature & Science. Enjoy one last weekend before heading back to school with the Science of Space Expo, Saturday, August 11, 2018. From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. the museum will host astronomy activities from the GSK Science in the Summer™ program. Provided by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and administered through the Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science, this fun and free event will introduce visitors to the sun and the stars, Earth’s moon, and space travel. Learn through fun, hands-on, experiments with sun prints, rockets, the phases of the moon, and more.
The Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science is presenting the film Jaws as the final installment of the “Sci-Fi Summer Film Series” Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Rio Grande Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m., the film begins at 7 p.m. with a brief introduction by museum assistant Destry Kissick. Admission is free.
In the film Jaws (PG), an enormous great white shark terrorizes a summer resort town, where a police chief, a fisherman, and a marine biologist realize they’re “gonna need a bigger boat” to battle the bloodthirsty beast.
Admission to the Las Cruces Museum System is free. The Museum of Nature & Science is located at 411 N. Main St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (June – August), and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call 575.522.3120.
